Turner Construction Company joined representatives from Bakar Labs, University of California-Berkeley, Gensler, and A Squared Solutions to celebrate the groundbreaking of Bakar Labs for Energy + Materials, a new 146,000-square-foot facility that will provide world-class laboratory and collaboration space for innovative companies advancing energy and material technologies.

The five-story building is designed by Gensler to foster flexibility and adaptability, allowing for future reconfiguration of laboratories, offices, and shared research environments. The facility will feature advanced laboratories, 3D printing studios, meeting and conference rooms, and offices to support the growth of early-stage companies and research initiatives.

“Turner is honored to partner with everyone on the Bakar Labs for Energy + Materials project,” said Manu Garg, Project Executive, Turner Construction Company. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to excellence and innovation in delivering complex research facilities. We look forward to contributing our expertise to a project that exemplifies the power of collaboration in advancing research and innovation.”

Turner is providing preconstruction and construction management services for the project. The company’s scope includes excavation, foundation, and structural work, as well as installation of specialized mechanical and electrical systems designed to support advanced research activities.

The project reflects a strong, ongoing relationship between Turner, Gensler, and A Squared Solutions, continuing their successful collaboration on a range of technically demanding academic and research facilities.

Construction is scheduled to continue through 2028 with the building opening shortly thereafter.
